Well, what with the price of gas, and the remoteness of the area, you better charge at least $0.55/mi.
Oh...and sign me up for the rescue squad!!! _________________ "Gettin' dirty in an '05 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Sahara Edition" |

Like most tow services, the mileage counter begins when the truck leaves the yard and ends when it returns. |

We were actually up there in Las Vegas when these started to get approved....50.....100....what the?
By the time we got home there were over 400 approved.
Be sure and do the 2 other power trails nearby...The Presidents, and the Fears.
We are on our way to see the baby white tigers at the Mirage.
Perhaps we will make a short side trip to do a bit of geocaching on our way there.
We will take pictures if we do.
It looks like its your basic Powerline road in the desert.

We were northeast of Calico this past weekend and within 10 miles of one end of the trail. We were too busy exploring mines and enjoying wildflowers to look for micros in the desert.
I had a chat with Larry Blaine (recreation Officer for the BLM in the Barstow office) at Calico this weekend. He and I have worked together on a couple of clean up projects before and he wants to set up another one this fall.
Larry confirmed that nobody from NGA contacted him prior to the placement of the geocaches.
Larry has been in touch with So Cal Edison. So Cal Edison owns the right of way and the towers and Larry told me that the So Cal Edison was not contacted prior to placement and So Cal Edison would have never approved of the placement on or near any tower.
Did the NGA place all those geocaches on private property without permission? _________________ 1996 ZJ "The Black Pearl" 1999 Ford F250
|

Yeah--this would not be in keeping with our security policies. Using the utility easements in that kind of area, e.g. driving the power line roads, is okay, but leaving anything behind takes a massive effort for approval.
Nothing would be approved too near any towers. I had a really hard time getting permission for this one because it is only about 100 from the closest tower, and just outside the easement.
These days, anything in the easement or especially near a tower could result in an interview with some Federales...

About 600 archived:
"Regretfully, we had to agree to archive these caches due to the "increased traffic and undue attention to the area". |

Lets see.....
The NGA has a gc.com moderator and a gc.com approver as part of the hiding crew.
No one from NGA asked permission to place the series from either the BLM, SCE or LADWP.
And So Cal 4x4 and specifically me will catch all the grief for the mess that the NGA made.
Just another day as the world turns in geocaching. _________________ 1996 ZJ "The Black Pearl" 1999 Ford F250
|

Absolutely fingers will be pointing at YOU!
But only from the people who didn't get out there in time...
A select few made "history"!

Just keep telling yourself "it's only a game...." |

Actually, since they were there, I was planning on heading out there this weekend. And now they're not...so I'm not. Oh well.
If they were placed without adequate permission, then pulling the plug was absolutely the appropriate action.
So from this member of "the people who didn't get out there in time," I sure won't be losing any sleep over it.
Life goes on.
And now I have a free weekend to do something else instead. _________________ Three eyes. Four wheels. |
